Muhamed was displaced during the war and due to legal and bureaucratic reasons he has now no property to return to. His family’s predicament is repeated throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, where people who were displaced but did not own property prior to the war are now left to live in often appalling conditions in alternative accommodation and collective centres.
Despite the difficulties he faces, Muhamed is a devoted father and spends the 140 KM he receives a month on ensuring his two boys and two girls enjoy a full childhood. Muhamed requires a permanent housing solution to his predicament which will enable him to provide his children with the security and stability they will need while growing up.
The revised Strategy for the Implementation of Annex VII of the Dayton Peace Agreement drawn up by the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees in cooperation with UNHCR contains measures which will facilitate durable solutions for all types of displaced persons. Recently adopted by the BiH House of Representatives, UNHCR looks forward to assisting the authorities in the roll out and implementation of the revised Strategy.
